“Nearly 32,000 Tonnes of Grapes Processed Across Kakheti” — National Wine Agency

Nearly 32,000 tonnes of grapes have been processed across Kakheti, according to the National Wine Agency. Of this total, 19,000 tonnes were Saperavi, 7,500 tonnes were Rkatsiteli, and the remainder comprised other grape varieties.

Approximately 500 wine companies are currently registered with the harvest coordination headquarters and will gradually join the grape intake process.

The state-owned Harvest Management Company is accepting grapes from growers at 14 locations across various municipalities in Kakheti. The harvest is actively underway in most municipalities throughout the region.

This year’s grape harvest is projected to reach approximately 320,000 tonnes.

To ensure an orderly harvest and the sale of the entire crop, the Georgian government has decided that, in the event of a surplus, all grape growers will have the opportunity to sell their grapes. For this purpose, Harvest Management Company LLC will purchase grapes grown in Kakheti from individual growers under the established conditions.

The purchase price for undamaged Saperavi grapes meeting quality standards, with a sugar content of at least 21%, will be GEL 1.50. For Saperavi grapes with a sugar content between 17% and 21% and/or partial damage, the price will be GEL 0.90. Saperavi grapes with a sugar content below 17% and/or damage will be purchased at GEL 0.30.

For other grape varieties permitted under Georgia’s Law on Vine and Wine, undamaged grapes with a sugar content of at least 20% will be purchased at GEL 1.30. Grapes with a sugar content between 17% and 20% will be purchased at GEL 0.80, while those with a sugar content below 17% will be purchased at GEL 0.30.
