Davit Songulashvili Meets American Wine Professionals and Journalists

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Davit Songulashvili met with leading American wine journalists and professionals.

The meeting focused on initiatives already implemented and planned to promote Georgian wine in the United States, raise its profile, and increase demand.

According to Songulashvili, the United States is an important export market for Georgian wine. In recent years, numerous marketing activities carried out with the support of the National Wine Agency have significantly increased awareness of Georgian wine in the American market.

“Active cooperation with wine professionals and media representatives is essential to raising awareness of Georgian wine in America. Working with international wine professionals and journalists provides an excellent opportunity to introduce Georgia’s ancient winemaking method, culture, and traditions. We believe this experience will further increase awareness of Georgian wine in the United States and showcase its uniqueness,” said Davit Songulashvili.

The visit was organised by Glodow Nead Communications, LLC, the National Wine Agency’s contracted American marketing company. The wine professionals visited 11 Georgian wineries and wine companies in the Kartli and Kakheti regions. They explored wine production processes, learned about both modern and traditional Georgian winemaking practices, and received detailed information about the country’s centuries-old wine history, culture, and traditions.

During the visit, the guests tasted Georgian wines made using both conventional and traditional methods. They also explored Georgian cuisine and the close relationship between wine and Georgian culture.

Karen MacNeil, editor of the digital newsletter WineSpeed and author of The Wine Bible, described the visit as an important opportunity to learn more about Georgian wine and discover its diversity firsthand.

“When I travelled from California to Georgia, I had no idea how extraordinary the country—and its wines—would prove to be. Throughout this trip, I tasted many delicious Georgian wines. I am immensely grateful for this experience. Your ancient and unique winemaking history also points to a very exciting and promising future for Georgian wine,” said Karen MacNeil.

The meeting at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture was also attended by Alex Fondren, Vice President of Glodow Nead Communications, LLC; Charlene Peters, a freelance writer and Apple News contributor; Stacy Buchanan, founder and publisher of Blood of Gods magazine; Pete Holland, sommelier and wine writer; and senior representatives of the National Wine Agency.
