“Certification Confirms Product Quality” – Zurab Vacharadze
“A certificate confirms that a product placed on a particular market meets the relevant requirements. If a wine producer avoids the certification process, this may raise questions about the quality of their product. Safeguarding the quality of Georgian wine is one of the National Wine Agency’s main objectives,” said Zurab Vacharadze, Deputy Chairman of the National Wine Agency.
During a transitional stage in the development of Georgia’s winemaking sector, certain certification services were exempt from fees. Today, however, the situation has changed: more than 3,000 wine producers are registered in Georgia, Georgian wine is sold in around 70 countries, and annual exports average 100 million litres. At this stage of the sector’s development, there is therefore no longer a need to keep certification services entirely free of charge.
