Bolnisi Wines Shine at Merano Wine Festival with 7 Medals

With the support of RMG, 10 small wineries from the "Gvino Bolnisi" association participated in the prestigious Merano Wine Festival in Italy. The event showcased 17 wines from Bolnisi's finest producers in the festival's international wine section, highlighting the diversity and quality of Georgian winemaking.

Bolnisi wines achieved remarkable success at the festival’s wine competition, winning seven medals: two gold and five silver. This recognition underscores the exceptional quality of wines from the Bolnisi PDO region.

A Georgian wine master class, led by sommelier Tamar Chichiboshvili, further enhanced the presence of Georgian wine at the festival. Recently named Georgian Wine Ambassador to Italy by the Merano Wine Festival, Chichiboshvili presented a curated selection of Georgian wines, earning high praise from attendees.

“This year marks the first time Georgian wines were evaluated at the Merano Wine Competition, and it is thrilling to see them earn such acclaim, including seven medals for Bolnisi wines,” Chichiboshvili shared. “The wines showcased the distinctiveness of Georgian grape varieties. Alongside qvevri-aged wines, we introduced wines aged using Swabian technology from Bolnisi, which garnered significant interest.”

Celebrating its 33rd year, the Merano Wine Festival is a prestigious international event that attracts wine producers, experts, and journalists from across the globe. Bolnisi’s outstanding performance at this event highlights the growing global reputation of Georgian wines.

“Participating in such festivals is crucial for raising global awareness of Georgian wines,” noted sommelier Jaba Dzimistarishvili. “Through tastings and master classes, we provided European consumers and buyers with deeper insights into Bolnisi wines. The Bolnisi winemaking tradition resonates closely with European tastes, making these wines more accessible to the audience.”

RMG’s support for the Bolnisi Winemakers program aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. This initiative includes promoting Bolnisi wines at major international events such as the Merano Wine Festival, the International Orange Wine Festival, and the IWSC, further boosting the global recognition of Georgian wines.
