Irakli Karseladze: Travel from Tbilisi to Batumi will be Reduced to 3.40h
The time it takes to travel from Tbilisi to Batumi will be cut in half once the road sections that are scheduled to open in 2022 are completed. Irakli Karseladze, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, made a statement on it.
He estimates that the trip from Tbilisi to Batumi will take 3 hours and 40 minutes.
According to the Minister, in 2021, within the framework of construction of highways and road infrastructure, 303 projects worth 6.5 billion GEL were underway, in which 97 companies, including 88 Georgian and 9 foreign, participated.
"Despite the pandemic, 70 km of new highways have been opened in the country, as a result of which the trip from Tbilisi to Batumi will take 4 hours instead of 5 hours. As a result of the opening of the road sections planned for 2022, the travel time from Tbilisi to Batumi will be further reduced and the journey will take only 3 hours and 40 minutes," - said Irakli Karseladze. He added that the first 2 km section of Rikoti was opened in 2021 and according to the contract, the construction of the remaining section will be completed in stages in 2022-2023.
"We plan to open specific sections this year as well. The Khevi-Ubisa and Ubisa-Shorapani sections are uniquely advanced from the Rikoti sections," Irakli Karseladze said at the parliament.
