Zurab Noghaideli: Georgia should Employ the Opportunity to Grow into Energy Hub
Georgia has the opportunity to grow into an electricity hub. To this end, the country should employ its advantages, Zurab Noghaideli, currently, member of ElGreen energy company’s supervisory board noted.
The current reality should not mislead us to think that electricity exports to Turkey are not attractive any more, he said.
“Consumption has declined amid the pandemic and this situation may last for a while, but not endlessly. Therefore, electricity consumption and its price in Turkey will increase definitely. This market will become attractive for electricity supply again. Namely, ElGreen will keep supplying Azerbaijani electricity to this country. Indeed, Azerbaijani electricity will cross the territory of Georgia to Turkey”, Noghaideli noted.
This factors stresses attractiveness of Georgia as a transit country and electricity hub country, Noghaideli pointed out.
“The country should grow into an electricity transformation and transit country. I mean that the excessive electricity of Azerbaijan generated by steam power plants, that is, base electricity should enter Georgia, where our regulatory HPPs will transform this energy into the peak-hour electricity that will be sold on EU market at much higher prices. We should maximally use this opportunity and advantages “, Zurab Noghaideli said.
