World Bank Finances Tbilisi-Sagarejo Highway Project

Tbilisi-Sagarejo's new highway will be constructed as part of the Kakheti highway project. The 35.2km 4-lane highway design was financed by the World Bank.

The project was designed by Austrian and American highly-qualified companies. Tenders for the purchase of construction works will be announced in November and December.

The Tbilisi-Sagarejo highway is the part of the transit corridor that connects Tbilisi with Kakheti and Georgia with the northwestern region of Azerbaijan. The road traffic has essentially increased on Tbilisi-Sagarejo section. The existing road crosses settlements, villages, and cities such as Vaziani, Sartichala, Ninotsminda, and Sagarejo. The new highway will cardinally improve the road traffic safety standards and reduce the driving time.
