Working Meeting Held with Winegrowers and Winemakers from Kvemo Kartli at the Jighaura Research Base

A working meeting with winegrowers and winemakers from the Kvemo Kartli region was held at the Jighaura Research Base of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture. The event aimed to support the development of viticulture and winemaking in the region by introducing farmers to modern agricultural technologies and the latest scientific recommendations.

Participants were welcomed by Levan Ujmajuridze, Director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, who emphasized the importance of translating scientific knowledge into practical applications.

"One of the Scientific-Research Center's key priorities is to make the results of scientific research and modern agricultural technologies accessible to farmers. Through meetings like this, we share the knowledge and practical recommendations that are essential for the proper establishment of new vineyards, their effective management, and the production of high-quality harvests," said Levan Ujmajuridze.

The meeting was also attended by Zurab Vacharadze, Deputy Chairman of the National Wine Agency, who spoke about the latest regulations governing the viticulture and winemaking sector and highlighted the importance of cooperation between the scientific community and the private sector.

"Viticulture and winemaking are strategic sectors for Georgia. Close cooperation between scientific institutions and the private sector is therefore of particular importance, as the proper establishment and management of vineyards—and ultimately the production of high-quality Georgian wine—are essential for strengthening competitiveness in both domestic and international markets," said Zurab Vacharadze.

During the meeting, the Center's scientists and specialists introduced participants to the potential of Kvemo Kartli's indigenous grape varieties, the characteristics of vineyard soils in the region, modern soil management practices, and the principles of integrated grapevine protection.

Participants also toured the Jighaura Ampelographic Collection Vineyard, which preserves Georgia's genetic resources of grapevine varieties. The program concluded with a tasting of wines produced from indigenous and promising Georgian grape varieties characteristic of the Kvemo Kartli region.
