Tbilisi to have Smart Public Transport System Starting Next Year

Smart public transport, upgraded wagons, 200 new buses, reduced waiting times, bicycle lanes - these are the announced changes in the transport policy of the Tbilisi Mayor.

Kakha Kaladze hopes that the modern, smart public transport system will allow citizens to move comfortably and quickly.

The mayor says that by the end of the year the minibuses will be completely replaced, will be equipped in stages from next year and will move on the respective routes. It also says that metro modernization and eco-friendly transport promotion projects will be implemented.

Ten transit corridors will be created and synchronization will be carried out in a single system of all public transport.

"Unfortunately, in some districts there is either no public transport at all, or the waiting time is very long. This problem will be solved in the coming years. New wagons will be added to the metro, a unified subscription system will be introduced when receiving transport services, ropeways and a 515 km long bicycle lane will be arranged. The third stage of taxi reform will be implemented, which will lead to the final package of the city's transport system, "- said Kakha Kaladze.
