Maritime Transport Agency: Seaports Continue 24/7 Operation

“The coronavirus pandemic has reaffirmed that maritime transport remains the backbone of the international trade”, the Georgian Maritime Transport Agency director Tamar Ioseliani told the Business Morning TV Program and added that Georgian seaports provide valuable safety standards and carry out appropriate disinfection works to prevent the virus spread.

“Amid the nationwide quarantine, seaports remain open for 24/7 and continue operation at full capacity. We keep working and cargo operations are carried out without obstacles. The coronavirus pandemic has reaffirmed that maritime transport remains the backbone of the international trade. Consequently, the Maritime Transport Agency ensures timely reception and departure of ships. And we also handle cargo consignment in optimal timeframes.

Safety and security of our seaports are very important. Consequently, we have started carrying out corresponding measures in February in relation to both private and public organizations at the seaports.

Wу have completely satisfied the recommendations passed by the interdepartmental coordination board at the Prime Minister. All organizations at the seaport receive timely information, we work under the corresponding regulations, carry out disinfection works and all bodies at the seaports are equipped duly.

As the primary task, we have decided to identify all incoming ships and minimize virus import risks. In this regard, the incoming ships pass the screening and they send healthcare declarations at least 24 hour earlier. We forward the motioned declarations to all corresponding bodies and instances. There measures have brought real results and all offices have met the each ship prepared.

Furthermore, if necessary, we disinfect cargo consignments together with the Customs Department”, the Maritime Transport Agency director noted.
