Innovative Customs Checkpoint to Set Up Between Georgia and Azerbaijan

An innovative customs checkpoint will be set up between Georgia and Azerbaijan, with the support of the Asian Development Bank.

The Minister of Finance Lasha Khutsishvili spoke about the project at the annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank. He said the project will develop a digital platform that will be connected to the information systems of both countries.

"We are confident that this will greatly facilitate cross-border movement and may become a good model for the CAREC corridor," Lasha Khutsishvili said, noting that the digital standard harmonization solution between CAREC member states could enhance the coordinated data exchange system and the potential of this corridor.

Within the framework of the annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank, a high-level meeting of the Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) was held on the topic: "Restoring Regional Cooperation through Digital Transformation".

"Harmonization of administrative procedures, synchronization of transport corridors and logistics systems, electronic exchange of data and documentation - all this can be achieved only through digital integration. In the aftermath of the pandemic, CAREC member states need to step up cooperation in this area, although efforts by governments alone are not enough, and dialogue with the private sector is crucial in this process. We all understand that the final beneficiary of the integration process will be the private sector, so it is important to consider business as one of the driving forces of this process, "- said the Minister of Finance.
