Davit Songulashvili: Processing Local Raw Materials Domestically Supports the Production of Value-Added Products

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Davit Songulashvili visited the Marneuli Food Factory in Marneuli Municipality, Kvemo Kartli, where he learned about the company’s operations and production processes.

Established in 2007, the Marneuli Food Factory is now one of Georgia’s largest food-processing companies. It specialises in processing fruit and vegetables and producing canned goods. The factory manufactures more than 50 products, including tomato paste, tkemali sauce, adjika, pickled products, sauces, jams and preserves.

“It is particularly important to process locally produced agricultural raw materials within the country and create value-added products. On the one hand, this provides farmers with more opportunities to sell their produce; on the other, it supports the development of new enterprises, creates employment and stimulates economic activity in the regions,” Davit Songulashvili said.

The use of local raw materials is an important part of the Marneuli Food Factory’s production process. The factory sources its raw materials from its partner company, Marneuli Agro, and more than 150 Georgian farmers, helping strengthen the link between local agriculture and the food-processing industry.

The factory’s products are sold on the Georgian market and exported, including to European and US markets. Tkemali sauce, pickled cucumbers and adjika are among its most popular export products.

The Minister was accompanied by Ilia Jalaghania, State Representative in Kvemo Kartli; Deputy Ministers Giorgi Tskrialashvili and Lasha Avaliani; Head of the National Food Agency Giorgi Iakobashvili; and Mayor of Marneuli Municipality Dauri Ismailov.
