COVID Department Opens in Tbilisi Republican Hospital; State Budget Spends GEL 8 million

On January 25, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia and Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze visited the new COVID department at Tbilisi Republican Hospital.

According to the government’s press release, on basis of the State Medical Holding, a new COVID department has opened at Academic Nikoloz Kipshidze Central University Clinic that serves 400 patients. The state budget has spent GEL 8 million on the project implementation. We remind you that the State Medical Holding was created by the initiative of Ekaterine Tikaradze. At the first stage, 3 state clinics were united in the holding: Republican Hospital, Infection Clinical Hospital for Children, and National Oncology Center. The holding is led by Giorgi Chogovadze.

"As noted by the Prime Minister, the second wave of the pandemic outlined the necessity of mobilizing additional emergency beds and the project was implemented in the shortest period to prevent a deficit in the country. At this stage, the clinic has 200 fully-equipped emergency beds and 200 new ones will be added in February 2021. Moreover, three oxygen devices were added to Tbilisi Republican Hospital”, the government’s press release reads.
