ADB: Georgia will Fully Open Economy thanks to Vaccination Plan

“The COVID-19 vaccination national plan is an important precondition to ensure Georgia’s access to COVID-19 vaccines and successful and continuous implementation of the vaccination process”, the ADB resident representative in Georgia Shane Rosenthal noted.

The vaccination will enable Georgia to fully protect population from COVID-19 fatality and fully lift economic restrictions.
 
The ADB representation in Georgia has released a statement over the vaccination plan. According to the statement, ADB is assisting Georgia in developing the national vaccination plan for COVID-19 pandemic prevention.
 
Under the plan approved by Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia on January 21, Georgia will import COVID-19 vaccines, vaccinate population and supervise the process. The plan also comprises legal, regulatory and institutional aspects, cold chain and logistical requirements and principles for determining target groups of population in the vaccination process.
 
“This project of ADB expands the universal financial and technical assistance package allocated by the Bank. This package has helped Georgia reduce COVID-19 damages. In December 2020, ADB approved a grant of $2.5 million with the financial co-participation of the Government of Japan to supply vitally essential reserves and services to pandemic-damaged population.
 
In May and October 2020 ADB approved loans of $100 million and $200 million for preventing disease spread, maintaining vitality parameters of socially vulnerable citizens and strengthening Georgia’s public finances management and social protection systems.
In August 2020, ADB also allocated a grant for purchasing PCR test equipment for improving testing process.
