Stricter Sanctions to Take Effect against Air Pollution

The government of Georgia plans to toughen sanctions against air pollution.

The environment supervision department has already prepared the bill of amendments to the Code of Administrative Offences and the law on Protection of Atmospheric Air.

The air pollution fine will rise from 5 000 GEL to 45 000 GEL, Grigol Pochkhidze, deputy head of the department’s law office noted.

The bill obliges air pollutant companies to carry out self-monitoring in continuous regime.

Under the bill, the deadline for technical re-equipment will end on January 1, 2021.
