Nino Kharatishvili to be a Winner of Schiller Memorial Prize 2019

The Schiller Memorial Prize is a literature prize of the State of Baden-Württemberg. It is endowed with 25,000 euros and has been awarded since 1955 on Friedrich Schiller's birthday, 10 November. The prize acknowledges outstanding work in the field of German literature or intellectual history, for single works or collected works.

"Nino Kharatishvili is one of the most relevant authors of German Literature and not only for her generation. Her prose impressively demonstrates, what can literature do, when it tries to represent social conflicts.", declared Minister of German Culture, Theresia Bauer.

As jury defines, literary works of Nino Kharatishvili have refined esthetics and diverse nature. Her prose reflects on emigration and its caused psychological trauma, especially from women perspective. In her last novel, which is called "The Eighth Life: (for Brilka)", Kharatishvili represented herself as a huge, linguistic stylist.

Awarding Ceremony will take place in Stuttgart on the 14th of November.
