National Center for Disease Control to Test 2,000-2,500 Persons a Day by late May
As noted by Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of the National Center for Disease Control, on April 30 Georgia tested 1,096 persons and this is the highest quantity of COVID-19 testing.
The country plans to further intensify the testing process to 1,700 tests by mid May and to 2,000-2,500 tests by late May, Amiran Gamkrelidze added.
“At the meeting with the Health Minister we agreed to further expand laboratory research works. Key accent is made on research works. Today, we had the peak – 1.096 persons were tested at 12 laboratories. Consequently, instead of 5 laboratories, today 12 laboratories are conducting tests. Three other facilities will join the united campaign next week. We plan to increase the number of tests to 1,500-1,700 a day by mid May and to 2,000-2,5000 tests by late May. This is a necessary step to ensure a wide access to PCR research work”, Amiran Gamkrelidze noted.
As for May 1, Georgia has registered 566 infected persons, about 200 persons have recovered and 6 patients have died.
