Kvesheti-Kobi 9-km Tunnel Has no Analog in Region
The Road Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia continue preparatory works for building the 9-km tunnel of the Kvesheti-Kobi highway. The drilling works will start in September 2021.
“TBM is one of the high-technology tunnel-drilling machines that substantially reduce environmental impact. Simultaneity with drilling a tunnel, the TBM machine ensures coating the tunnel with concrete and grows safety standards in this way.
The Kvesheti-Kobi highway and tunnel will ensure safe and continuous traffic throughout the year, while the current infrastructure becomes insecure in the winter period amid heavy snows and avalanche hazards. The 9-km tunnel with 15-meter width has no analog in the entire Region, the Road Department officials noted.
