Georgia Celebrates 102th Independence Day
May 26th, 2020 marks the 102-year anniversary of the date Georgia declared independence from Russia and created the Democratic Republic of Georgia. Although a constituent of the USSR from 1922-1991, the country became a sovereign nation once again in 1991.
Due to the global coronavirus pandemic, large-scale events marking Georgia’s Independence Day will not be held this year.
According to the Prime Minister’s spokesman Irakli Chikovani, the head of the Georgian Government, Giorgi Gakharia will celebrate May 26 at the Fourth Military Brigade of the Vaziani Military Base with the Georgian Defense Forces.
