Film "And We Danced" Received Three Nominations at the Chlotrudis Awards
The acclaimed LGBTQ drama, "And We Danced" won three nominations at the Chlotrudis Awards for Independent Film.
Georgian picture will compete in the categories of best film, best male actor (Levan Gelbakhiani) and best music (Zviad Mghebrishvili).
The Georgian-Swedish film was shot in 2019 by Georgian-Swedish director Levan Akin. The main roles in the picture are played by Levan Gelbakhiani, Bachi Valishvili and Ana Javakhishvili. The soundtrack belongs to Zviad Mghebrishvili, a Georgian musician and film composer, one of the founders of Postred Audio Post Production Company.
The story takes place in Tbilisi in 2010. The main character is a young gay man who is a member of a Georgian dance troupe. Due to the homophobic stigmas prevalent in the society, the protagonist has to hide his sexual orientation.
The film premiered at the Cannes International Film Festival. Also, Levan Gelbakhiani was nominated for the European Film Academy. Later, a special screening of the picture was held at the Sundance Film Festival. In total, "And Then We Danced" received 25 different film awards and nominations. In 2019, the film competed for an Oscar nomination on behalf of Sweden, but failed to make it to the final list. "And We Danced" is the first Georgian film to be nominated for a Chlotrudis Awards.
The Chlotrudis Awards have been awarding outstanding works of independent film since 1994. This year’s awards ceremony will be held online on March 17th.
