Construction of New 9 Km Tunnel on Kvesheti-Kobi Road Begins in Summer
Construction of a new 9-kilometer tunnel on the Kvesheti-Kobi road will begin in the summer.
According to the Chairman of the Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, the drilling equipment has already been brought to Georgia, and part of it is already carried to Kobi. Once the situation improves, the device will be assembled and drilling of the underground tunnel will start in 3-4 months.
"This is a unique project, including what is being implemented in Georgia. It is planned to build a 9-kilometer continuous tunnel, which will reach 15 meters in radius.", noted Giorgi Tsereteli and also mentioned, that the situation on the Kobi-Gudauri road during the winter period is clear proof of the need to build this tunnel and road so that it is possible to move safely at any time of the year.
