Bolnisi Museum Named Final Nominee of European Museum of the Year 2022 Competition

The Bolnisi Museum of the Georgian National Museum has been named the final nominee of the European Museum of the Year 2022 competition by the European Museum Forum.

The award ceremony of the 2022 European Museum Competition (EMYA 2022) was held in Tartu, Estonia on May 7, where the Bolnisi Museum was awarded a diploma for "Significant Contribution to Improving the Quality of Public Involvement in the Museum."

The European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA) was established in 1977 under the auspices of the Council of Europe. The award is given to a museum that is successful in attracting an audience and meeting the needs of visitors with its unique atmosphere, interpretation, presentation, creative approach to education, and social responsibility. The European Museum of the Year Award highlights the importance of preserving and promoting Europe's cultural heritage. The competition is open to 47 member states of the Council of Europe.

Georgia first participated in the competition in 2016 with the Svaneti Museum of History and Ethnography of the Georgian National Museum and was nominated among the candidates for the best museums in Europe.
