Udabno Plans to Build Tourism Hub
As a director of the company "Udabno", Goderdzi Metreveli mentioned, they plan to cultivate almond orchards on 300 to 500 hectares of territory. The project, according to him, was developed successfully.
"The desert was a place where perennial plants could flourish on years ago. Its cultivation started in 2016 and today, there are several gardens on the territory. We also have farms for goats, chickens, and buffaloes.
The largest almond orchards owned by one company on the European continent are cultivated here. Some parts will be delivered to the Georgian market and the rest will be exported. Georgia will acquire a significant position in the almond business when our gardens are fully operational. In particular, from 2023, 2,300 hectares will be fully cultivated.", Goderdzi Metreveli noted.
500 people are employed in the desert for 8-9 months seasonally.
As for the future plans, Goderdzi Metreveli notes, that apart from the almond orchards and livestock development, they also plan to start fish farming.
"The village "Pandora" as a project is part of a plan. It will include a tourist hub, with a hotel and restaurant. The parts of the hotel are restored and remodeled from the old houses.", Goderdzi Metreveli defines.
