Tbilisi Takes Over Status of the World Book Capital from Kuala Lumpur on April 23
Tbilisi will take over the status of the World Book Capital from Kuala Lumpur on April 23.
Kuala Lumpur became the book capital of the world on the eighth attempt, - Ninia Macharashvili, the project director of "Tbilisi-World Book Capital 2021" said about it in the program of Imedi.
According to her, it was a very difficult and complex process.
"First of all, we filled out an application that was quite thick. We agreed on this project in advance with our partners. After that we had a remote interview and only after that, on October 7, 2019, UNESCO announced that Tbilisi had gained the status of the World Book Capital. There were exactly 2 criteria: sustainability of projects and originality of projects, ”said Ninia Macharashvili.
According to her, with the efforts of Tbilisi City Hall, almost all the projects that were written in the application were maintained and implemented.
