TaoFood Invests GEL 1 Million to Launch Fish Food Enterprise in Sighnaghi

Several years ago, Manana Metreveli, the beneficiary of the Preferential Agro Credit state program, launched a modern-standard combined forage enterprise in the city of Tsnori, Sighnaghi Municipality.

The enterprise produces approximately 80 tons of combined forage a month. The company sells products on the domestic market under the brand of TaoFood. Total investments in the enterprise amounted to GEL 900,000, including GEL 600,000 was mobilized as a preferential agro loan and GEL 300,000 was personally invested by the beneficiary. The enterprise employs 25 persons.

As noted by TaoFood PR manager Inga Napetvaridze, at this stage, the company manufactures food for cats, dogs, and cows, but fish food production is a key line. “It was very difficult to arrange the fish production line because the enterprise construction process coincided with the pandemic and logistics worsened. Nonetheless, we have launched fish food production two months ago. Throughout the year we collaborate with laboratories, examine our fish products and tests have proved that our enterprise satisfies the highest standards.

Fish grow rapidly because we produce absolutely clean bioproducts”, Inga Napetvaridze said and added that the market had been overwhelmed by imported fish foods before the enterprise launched the operation. At this stage, TaoFood products are sold only in Georgia. Prices vary due to the quality of products. The highest price is GEL 4.5 per 1 kg, she said. As for export plans, higher quality requirements run on the EU market and the company plans to collaborate with European experts to improve due components, she said. “We will make focus on fish production. We want to develop aquaculture. At this stage, we employ 25 persons”, Inga Napetvaridze said.
