Snails Farm Opens in Abasha, Investments Total GEL 650,000
The founder of the Iceberg ice-cream manufacturing company has decided to launch a snail farm business in Abasha and invested GEL 650,000 in building a small new farm in the village of Ontofo.
As the company director Simon Kacharava told BM.Ge, the farm covers 1.5 hectares, while maize for feeding snails grows on 2 hectares.
“We have decided to arrange a snails farm because the global market remains unemployed yet and only 40% has been occupied. We had land and took a loan of 300,000 GEL from Bank of Georgia. On the whole, the total investment on the snail farm arrangement amounted to GEL 650,000”, Simon Kacharava noted.
The farm construction works lasted 4 months and about 20 persons were involved in the process. The finished farm will employ 10 local residents on a permanent basis, he said.
The grown snails will be exported by Nadi Group company to Italy, France, Singapore.
We plan to export about 25 tons of snails and 5-6 tons of mucus”, Simon Kacharava pointed out and added: “I do not rule out to supply snails to domestic market too, because the snail business becomes more popular in Georgia too”.
