Restoration Project of Endemic Varieties of Meskhetian vine and Georgian Wheat Starts in Samtskhe-Javakheti
The restoration project of endemic varieties of Meskhetian vine and Georgian wheat is starting in Samtskhe-Javakheti.
The project "Sustainable management of agricultural biodiversity in vulnerable ecosystems and villages of the Samtskhe-Javakheti region" was presented at the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture.
According to the Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture, the project aims to promote the sustainable management of agro-diversity and the active involvement of international partners and donor organizations will play a crucial role in its implementation.
According to him, a collection of unique and rare varieties of Georgian vines has been created on the base of Jighaura, the search, and restoration of which has been going on for a long time.
The project will be implemented under the joint coordination of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia, the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP).
