Products in Increased Demand During Pandemic: Statistics of Georgia

Since the advent of COVID-19 in the world, a variety of things have changed, including the demand for various products.

To find out which products have the highest demand in Georgia, BPN turned to the supermarket "Nikora". Salome Khabalashvili, head of procurement at the company, explained that consumer behavior as well as demand for different products had changed, but this was expected of them and they were ready to accept the change.

"During the epidemic, consumer behavior was different and the special increase in demand for products was recorded in three stages. The first big wave was recorded on February 26, when the first person in Georgia was confirmed to be infected with Coronavirus. The first to increase demand was conservation and long-term production. Demand for hygiene has also increased in the first phase.

In the second stage, the demand for food products such as ready-made meat, fruits and vegetables, cereals, sugar, pasta, oil. Frozen products and dairy were also popular.

In the direction of sweets, there was an increase in the products sold by weight, biscuits and waffles, which were mainly supplied to children. Demand for alcohol decreased, except for wine. Another interesting trend was that consumers began to buy relatively cheap products instead of expensive brands. The only direction that kept the loyal customers was dairy products, ”Salome Khabalashvili explained.

Based on the information provided, the list of products on which the demand in Georgia has increased the most during the epidemic looks like this: rice, sugar, sausages, pasta, frozen ravioli, cheese Sulguni, potatos, toast bread, eggs, greek yogurt (Matsoni).
