Ostrich Farm in Georgia - New Potential Tourist Destination in Martvili
Ostriches, peacocks, and pheasants live with traditional cattle on one of the farms in Martvili.
According to the co-founder of the farm, Giorgi Asratiani, he came up with the idea of starting a farm during the pandemic.
"When the pandemic started and there was a shortage of some products in the market, we thought of buying cows and supplying milk, cheese, and other products to the market. We bought Holstein cows and pigs, from which cholesterol-free, dietary meat is obtained. At the same time, we brought eggs of different birds from Europe, bought incubators, and as a result, all the birds hatched in Georgia."
He further added that ostriches are mainly bought for decorative purposes. The demand is not great, however, the price of a pair of adult ostriches ranges from $3,000 to $5,000. In addition to decorative finches, the farm plans to offer and develop tourism products.
"We have a ranch-type house and space in the village of Nakhunao in the municipality of Martvili. At the moment, we are trying to set up an eco-tourist place and launch a restaurant and cottages on our territory."
