Old Pharmacy with New Medications; Galip Ozturk to Open Hotel at Batumi’s Old Pharmacy
A new hotel, a casino, and a store will open at the historical building of Batumi’s Old Pharmacy. Investments will be made by Turkish businessman Galip Ozturk.
Ozturk’s company Metro Holding launched developing this project a year ago and the company has already invested $5 million. As noted by Metro Holding director Raul Kakhadze, the complex will open in January 2022.
“To respect the sweet memories of Batumi residents, a symbolized pharmacy will function in the complex – the old pharmacy with new medications”, Raul Kakhadze said and added that the complex would employ 50-70 persons. The building on Memed Abashidze Avenue that is still called Batumi’s first and oldest pharmacy built at the doorway of XIX-XX centuries represents a cultural heritage monument. The building was bought by LLC Jasmin in 2011 to build a multi-storied hotel, but the Cultural Heritage Agency of Adjara Autonomous Republic did not authorize the company. Later, Metro Holding bought the Jasmin company and introduced a new project.
“Since this is a historical building, the investor has refused to add new floors. The building will maintain its appearance and acquire new details too”, Raul Kakhadze said.
