Nut Processing and Drying Plant Opened in Chokhatauri with 680,440 GEL Investment
A nut processing and drying enterprise was opened in Chokhatauri municipality with an investment of 680,440 GEL. The Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture shares the news.
According to the agency, the enterprise can process up to 300-500 tons of nuts per year.
"Megagro" is a hazelnut processing enterprise equipped with modern standards, where it is possible to process up to 300-500 tons of hazelnuts annually. The enterprise employs 20 people. The company is a beneficiary of the co-financing project of agricultural products processing and storage enterprises. A total of 680,440 GEL was invested in the enterprise. Of this, 250,000 GEL is a grant, and 300,000 GEL was received by the company within the framework of the "Integrated Development Program of Pilot Regions". In addition, the company, with the help of the "Technical Assistance Program", introduced the international food safety standard ISO 22000, where co-financing from the state amounted to 30,000 GEL. It plans to sell its products on both local and international markets," the information released by the ministry reads.
Megagro was inspected today by the Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Otar Shamugia and Giorgi Urushadze, State Commissioner of Guria.
"Nuts are an important agricultural product for us. The market is fully diversified and the products are almost entirely exported to the European Union. Last year, approximately 114 million dollars worth of Georgian nuts were exported, which is several times higher than the previous year's figure, and we should maintain this trend", Otar Shamugia said.
