Number of Employees in Horeca Sector Decreased by 35%

Reduction of employment is particularly high in the hotel and catering business.

In the fourth quarter of 2020, employment in these sectors fell by 35% year-on-year.

According to Geostat, the number of employees in the hotel sector decreased by 39.2% in the fourth quarter of 2020. A total of 9,606 people were employed in the sector, while the number of employed in the same period of 2019 was 15,805.

The number of employees in the food and beverage service sector decreased by 32%. A total of 16,816 people were employed in this business in the fourth quarter, down 8,000 from the 2019 figure.

Turnover in both of these sectors fell by 56% to GEL 234.9 million. The turnover of hotels was 53.5 million, of food establishments 191.4 million, the annual decrease here is more than 40%.
