Modern-Standard Hazelnut Plant Opens in Lagodekhi

A new hazelnuts processing plant has opened in Georgia. The new modern-standard enterprise that opened in Lagodekhi comprises hazelnut sorting, drying, and storing blocks.

The enterprise is capable of drying 1,000 tons of hazelnuts and storing 500 tons. The enterprise employs about 20 local residents and will serve over 200 farmers in Kakheti Region. This is the sixth enterprise that has been launched with the support of USAID and the Georgian Hazelnuts Producers Association. Total investments in the project marked 4250,000, including a Georgian state grant of GEL 275,00 and a preferential agro loan of GEL 277,000.

The company has also obtained a USAID grant of $50,000 as part of the hazelnuts exports promotion program. According to the Agriculture Minister, projects for hazelnuts sector rehabilitation and development will be implemented in 2021 too in order to improve qualitative and quantitative indicators of hazelnut production and exports. As for farmers, they are oriented toward the production of high-quality products so the hazelnuts sales price grows and receives more incomes.
