Maricultura Georgia Plans to Export Oysters and Mussels

Maricultura Georgia plans to export Georgian oysters and mussels.

The company already has offers from Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Russia, Hong Kong and Canada. Prior to export, the company sells its products only in the local market.

"Maricultura Georgia" submarine farm covers 70 hectares of sea area. Its productivity, per season, is 30 tons of mussels and 10-15 tons of oysters. It takes 2 years for a mussel to grow to adulthood and 4 years for an oyster.

Live sales of manufactured products last from May to October, and for the rest of the year, the company offers customers frozen products by the shock method.

In 2020, the submarine farm of the company "Maricultura Georgia" started operating in the Black Sea, near the village of Kvariati, where seafood is cultivated and grown. The main focus is on Black Sea mussels (mutilus galaprovinciale) and oysters (oyster grasoteria gigas).

"Maricultura Georgia" combines two facilities - a marine farm and a processing plant in Adjara and a shock freezing plant in Tbilisi. The company used a preferential agro-credit to set up a offshore farm and processing plant. State funding amounted to GEL 470,000.

In order to increase the production of mussels and oysters, with the support of state programs, the company plans to purchase a special vessel.
