Maricultura Georgia Company to Grow Mussels Production 5 Times; Business Prospects in Georgia
“We plan to grow production to 100 tons, while today we produce only 20 tons a year”, Maricultura Georgia founder Mamuka Mikashadze told Business Partner.
Despite the pandemic, the demand grows and we plan to expand business, he said.
“Despite the raging pandemic and a downturn in tourist inflows, the demand for and sales of mussels have increased anyway. We serve 5-star hotels and premium-class restaurants, supermarkets. This year we expect to receive very good catch yield.
Negotiations are underway with Armenia. They want to export our mussels and we are negotiating the customs details, because they abide by the very strict regulations of the EurAsian Customs Union. Though, the market is very interesting, because they have a highly-developed fish consumption culture. They export fish products from Georgia and we plan to introduce other maricutlure products too.
We plan to apply to Enterprise Georgia agency that has launched a new program for co-funding a purchase of sailing machines. They launched this program in 2021 and we want to convey a special ship to start cultivation and catching throughout the year. Our objective is to grow production to 100 tons, while today we produce only 20 tons a year. We plan to grow production 5 times and in this way their profits will also grow substantially. This is the huge and unused potential in Georgia. We have all preconditions to become a mussel and oyster production country and we have been doing our best to develop this industry in this country”, Mamuka Mikashadze noted.
