Influential Turkish Businessman Galif Ozturk to Launch Rice Production in Georgia
Influential Turkish businessman Galip Ozturk plans to launch rice production in Georgia. As he told Forbes Georgia, this idea was born amid the pandemic and now negotiations are underway with the Economy Ministry.
“There is a drying enterprise in Zugdidi that was on the balance of the Agriculture Ministry and later it was transmitted to the Economy Ministry. We plan to restart this enterprise. Georgia imports about 15,000 tons of rice a year and why should not we start exports of this product? We have launched negotiations with the Economy Ministry and Enterprise Georgia project. Our investments will be outlined in the agriculture sector amid the pandemic”, Galip Ozturk noted.
The Turkish businessman plans to invest 12 million GEL in rice production, however, the amount may further rise.
“Georgia fully depends on rice imports. If Turkey and Ukraine grow this culture, why should not we do the same? We should fill all gaps for self-sufficient Georgia”, the Turkish investor noted, whose METRO HOLDING company7 has been operating in Georgia as Metro Atlas Georgia since 2012.
