Georgia’s Snail Exports Triple

Georgia’s snail exports have tripled in 2020. As noted by LLC NADI Group director Merab Nadaraia, in 2019, the company exported 15 tons of snails, while the figure will rise to 45 tons in December 2020.

The demand for Georgian snails grows abroad.

As reported, the snail farm was arranged in the village of Akhali Khibula, Khobi Municipality, as part of the United Agro Project. This is the European breed of snail, he noted.

Several months ago, the company director unveiled plans for building a semi-finished products enterprise in Georgia, however, the Italian partners could not arrive in Georgia amid the pandemic. Consequently, the project implementation has been suspended, he said.

„Regretfully we could not launch the plant construction works. Our Italian partners could not arrive in Georgia because of the pandemic. Therefore, we have postponed our plans. As soon as the pandemic ends, in about a month, we will resume working on this issue. We have already negotiated all details.

As for snail exports, we had no problems in this regard, because we are shaping the exports consignment now and the product will be exported in December. In 2019, we exported 15 tons to Italy, this year the figure will increase to 45 tons. The greater part of the demand is reported from Italy, Portugal, France, England“, Merab Nadaraia noted.

At this stage, the company employs 12 persons. Total investment value of the project is GEL 1.6 million.
