BSFL Georgia Plans to Build Processing Plant for Black Soldier Fly

BSFL Georgia is a Georgian startup that aims to create a processing and high-tech manufacturing plant for the black soldier fly in Tbilisi.

The enterprise manufactures high-demand products for global and local markets, for instance, animal protein, worm eggs, chitin molecule, and organic fertilizer.

"Black soldier fly is a South American insect that needs certain conditions to then use its excrements in the production of high-quality organic fertilizer. In the future, we plan to add another type of insect to be used in human and animal nutrition."

The plant is currently located in Tbilisi, an area of which houses a building of 2000 sq.m. and a yard. The priority of the company is to adjust to the Georgian market, because the meat-and-bone flour imported into the country poses a threat to humans, specifically causing hormonal imbalances.

"We have ordered all the equipment needed for expanding production, which will increase the scale of the latter by up to 2000%. Now we produce only 1 ton per week, for our own farm. We will use the 150,000 GEL grant received from the Innovation and Technology Agent of Georgia for the technological development."
