Batumi Soviet-Era Cafe Granted Cultural Heritage Status

At the initiative of the Ajara Cultural Heritage Protection Agency, by the decision of the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia, Octopus was granted the status of a cultural heritage monument.

The rehabilitation works of Octopus were completed in 2019. Large-scale rehabilitation works of Cafe "Fantasia" were carried out by the Cartu Foundation in 2017-2019.

It should be noted that since 2000 the building has not been functioning due to severe damage.

The Octopus has retained its old appearance, is covered with mosaics. A fountain was restored in the surrounding area and access paths were arranged.

Cafe "Fantasia" was opened on Batumi Boulevard in 1981. The mosaic building was created according to the sketch of architect Giorgi Chakhava and artist Zurab Kapanadze.
