Winery PI Wins Grand Gold Medal at International Contest in Germany
Saperavi 2020 wine of Winery PI company has won Grand Gold & Best of Show Georgia Red medals at the MUNDUS VINI 2021 international contest in, Germany.
This is the third case when the Georgian wine has won the Grand Gold medal as part of the MUNDUS VINI competition. Over 4,500 wine varieties were introduced to the competition and only 36 ones have won Grand Gold medals, the company’s press release reads. Winery PI founder Teona Omarashvili:
“This is a very important victory for our company. First of all, this is the international recognition of Georgia wine. This fact proves that not only big wineries but also small Maranis (wine cellars) are capable of producing premium quality wines”, Teona Omarashvili said. This was the first and successful international presentation for Winery PI, she noted.
“We introduced the wins of our first harvest from the native microzone and the quality of grapes, terroir, winemaking technology precondition the final quality of wines. The company’s chief technologist with 25-year experience in winemaking Levan Chichinadze has largely contributed to our success”, Teona Omarashvili said. Founded in 2020, Winery PI owns vineyards of 15-year Saperavi grapes and 40-year Rkatsiteli grapes in the Tsinandali microzone. Currently, the company produces 2,200 bottles a year.
