British Wine Experts Evaluated Georgian Wine as Unique and Rich with Culture
An 11-member team of British wine professionals visited Georgia, including sommeliers, wine importers and media representatives. The visit was organized by Swirl Wine Group, contractor company of the National Wine Agency.
During the tour the guests visited Georgian wine producing companies in Kartli and Kakheti and tasted various Georgian wines on the spot. In addition, a tasting was held in Tbilisi, where 27 wine producing companies were given the opportunity to present their products to wine professionals.
Levan Mekhuzla, Chairman of the National Wine Agency, met British professionals at one of the wine companies in Kakheti. He said the UK is one of the strategic markets for Georgian wines and such activities are aimed at diversifying the Georgian wine markets.
“The UK is one of the largest importers and consumers of wine in the world. The aim of their visit to Georgia at this time of the year, during the vintage, is to popularize Georgian wines and diversify export markets. During the visit, the guests had the opportunity to get acquainted with Georgian wine culture and unique Georgian wines, which, along with other international markets, is growing in the UK as well, ”said Levan Mekhuzla.
According to British experts, Georgia is distinguished by its rich history of wine culture, diversity of vine varieties, wine-making traditions and unique wines.
