Raincoats with Vibrant Paintings that Bring RAINBOW to a Rainy Day

Rainbow Design creates handcrafted raincoats with paintings by Georgian artists or simply beautiful elements, brightening up rainy days with color and style.

Mariam Chighunadze, Founder of Rainbow Design, is 25 years old, a doctor, and a mother of 2 children. 4 years ago, when she was still a student, she decided to try herself in a field that has fascinated and intrigued her since childhood. She started to create a raincoat that would be decorated with colorful drawings and details that would be transparent at the same time. She tells CBW about how she gets started with her business:

''It took us a long time to assemble the first sample since the Georgian market has few materials we need and no sewing factories had the experience to work with similar materials. We had been assembling the first raincoat for about 6 months. I was about to give up when we got out the first sample that I instantly fell in love with. I took the raincoat to Germany with me and I would get positive reactions from people in the streets. They asked me which designer I wore, and I was proud to say I was from Georgia and it was made by me.

It had a great impact on me and made me realize that I should not give up and I should take care of creating a brand. We chose the name Rainbow, in addition to being associated with rain, evokes very positive emotions in me. Every time I would see a rainbow as a child, I would close my eyes and make my wishes, I want everyone who wears a Rainbow's colorful raincoat to also get positive emotions.

I learned a lot during this time, Rainbow gave me a great experience. Today factories send me the materials I need, and we have improved the quality over time.

What materials and techniques do you use to create your product?

We mainly use eco-friendly transparent material and 100% polyester. We decorate with drawings and details, mostly with paintings by Georgian artists. The work of 12-year-old Mariam Lukava in the children's line turned out to be especially successful, also many Georgian artists stood by us and allowed us to use their works and introduce them to the public.

Since I am a mother of 2 girls and I am studying medicine at the same time, I could not do all this without my mother, who put everything aside and became fully involved in the development of Rainbow. Today we are one team and we both love what we do. We also have news, we are adding a new line for four-legged friends, in addition, we are creating different designs.

Do you have new projects coming up?

We recently signed a contract in Great Britain, where from now on we will have our representative, I always wanted to color the streets of London with Georgian rainbow and I am glad that this wish was fulfilled, we have negotiations in several countries, we are actively working on exports. We still have a long way to go and a lot to learn, but we are not afraid, because the main thing is the love of our work and all the difficulties we encounter along the way is an experience.
