Zugdidi Theater Turns 153 Years Old
Zugdidi Shalva Dadiani Professional State Drama Theater is 153 years old. The historic anniversary was celebrated by the theater in the building of the former House of Culture, with the premiere of the play. The play is directed by Lasha Sherozia and is based on the novels of Hanoch Levin.
13 short novels are combined into one tragicomedy. Disappointed, hungry, scared, hopeless, people living in a pseudo-world from everyday life. Their existence is full of absurdity, sadness, tragedy, mental and physical problems, unrealized desires and alienation of the person from himself.
"Everything you see here makes sense. Here, what you see makes no sense. In these novels you will see things that cannot happen, but happen at every step of the way. "
As the director says, black comedy is a shield that recognizes, confronts and tries to save these people from themselves and others. Characters coming from nowhere seek happiness. Seek where it is not and seek where it may be.
153 years ago, on April 11, 1868, Anton Purtseladze staged Moliere's "Doctor by Force" on the stage of the theater. Now the theater is under construction. Two halls are being built - a large hall for 570 spectators and a small hall for 140 spectators.
The theater will also have a museum and hotel for guests on tour. The project is funded by the Cartu Foundation.
