Tbilisi’s Fall Opera Schedule Hits a High Note

Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre has renewed its season, hosting stunning productions in the fall. Whether you’re an opera enthusiast or you’re looking for an introduction to this world, you’ll be sure to find opera shows in Tbilisi to suit you.

Carmen is a half-wild, fascinating creature, a gypsy by birth, and living with a band of smugglers in the mountains near the coast of Spain. The smugglers are foiled in their attempt to get their illegal goods into the little town by Don Jose, an officer in the regiment stationed there.

Carmina Burana is a theatre piece based on a collection of 13th century songs and poems composed by minstrels and monks who had freed themselves of monastic discipline. The ballet is an abstract landscape of movement, bemoaning and celebrating the ever-changing fate of man.

The story of Giselle is a romantic tale of innocent love and betrayal; of philandering Count Albrecht and a trusting peasant maid, Giselle. Although she has a weak heart, Giselle loves to dance. Her beauty has enchanted Albrecht.

Three witches tell the Scottish general Macbeth that he will be King of Scotland. Encouraged by his wife, Macbeth kills the king, becomes the new king, and kills more people out of paranoia. A civil war erupts to overthrow Macbeth, resulting in more death.
