Higher! Faster! Stronger! - Untitled Gallery Presents Joint Exhibition
Untitled Gallery introduces a new joint exhibition with Rambalkoshe (Yerevan) and Tbilisi-based conceptual artist and writer, Katharina Stadler.
Higher! Faster! Stronger! traces the role of physical fitness in the culture of the Soviet Union.
The exhibit will be presenting “Soviet-Armenian Sports Life” photographic archives from Vahan Stepanyan’s personal collection and “Dinamo,” Soundscape installation by Katharina.
What did athleticism look and sound like in the soviet union? Who was the soviet athlete and who was their spectator? These questions form the theoretical frame of the exhibition which will examine sport and leisure as an ideological institution, one which profoundly shaped (and was shaped by) the soviet union and its citizenry.
Also, if the sport in the Soviet Union was formed by the conception of the modern state and its citizenry, what happens when the state and its ideology disappear?
The exhibit will be up till February the 22nd. This event is part of a one-year program at Untitled Gallery examining the topic of social-political mutation of South Caucasus for the last 30 years and will try to research the role of solidarity in it.
Katharina Stadler is a Vienna-born and Tbilisi-based conceptual artist and writer. Since 2019 she is working on her Ph.D. at The University of Art and Design in Linz with a project ‘on sound & ideology’.
The entrance is free of charge.
