Under the ‘Plant the Future’ Programme, the Establishment of Apple Orchards has been co-financed on more than 2,000 hectares of land
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Davit Songulashvili, visited the apple orchard of Tirifoni Gardens LLC in the village of Kvarkhiti, Gori municipality, where he observed the ongoing harvest.
“Tirifoni Gardens” is a beneficiary of the Rural Development Agency. With the support of the state programme “Plant the Future” and the Preferential Agro-Credit Project, the company established 28 hectares of apple orchards and 2.8 hectares of pear orchards, equipped with an automated drip irrigation system, anti-hail nets and a meteorological station.
It is noteworthy that among apple producers in Georgia, Tirifoni Gardens was the first company to be certified according to the international GlobalG.A.P. standard, receiving certification in 2017.
This year, the company expects to harvest 1,000 tonnes of apples. The produce is sold mainly on the local market, while part of the harvest is exported to Turkey.
Within the state programme “Plant the Future,” the Rural Development Agency has co-financed the establishment of apple orchards on 2,227 hectares across the country, with total co-financing exceeding 20.2 million GEL. Of this, in the Shida Kartli region alone, 1,877 hectares of orchards have been supported with 16.9 million GEL in co-financing.
