Songulashvili: Strengthening Environmental Research Infrastructure in Imereti Is a Government Priority
Davit Songulashvili, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, visited the Imereti regional office of the National Environmental Agency and held a working meeting with the staff.
The Imereti regional office houses several important structural units, including the Imereti Regional Hydrometeorological Observatory, the Western Georgia Regional Geological Division, and the Imereti Laboratory of the Department for Environmental Pollution Monitoring.
“In the near future, the construction of a new building for the National Environmental Agency in Kutaisi will begin. The facility will include both administrative and laboratory functions, housing state-of-the-art laboratories and an observatory. This will significantly enhance scientific research capabilities. Strengthening institutional capacity in the environmental sector and ensuring a fast and effective response to ongoing processes and challenges is a key priority for us,” said Minister Davit Songulashvili.
According to Elene Gubianuri, Head of the National Environmental Agency, the new regional office will allow for expanded research components, the use of advanced scientific methodologies, strengthened field geology and hydrology teams, recruitment of new personnel, and the implementation of a government internship program.
Minister Songulashvili was accompanied by Deputy Minister Kakhaber Kakabadze and Levan Zalkaliani, State Representative in the Imereti region.
