“Our Goal Is to Support the Production of More Georgian Products and Reduce Dependence on Imports”

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Davit Songulashvili visited the greenhouse farm operated by sole proprietor Ramin Nagiyev in the village of Mukhrani, Mtskheta Municipality, where he learned about the farm and its production processes.

The farm grows annual crops and has a production capacity of up to 20 tonnes per month. Its products are sold on the domestic market, and the farm employs between 10 and 15 people.

“The development of greenhouse farms is one of the key priorities of our agricultural policy. Modern technologies introduced into production allow farmers to grow produce not only seasonally but throughout the year. Our goal is to support the production of as many Georgian products as possible and reduce dependence on imports,” Davit Songulashvili said.

Ramin Nagiyev is a beneficiary of the Rural Development Agency. In 2025, he participated in the Georgian Vegetables from Greenhouses project. He received a loan of GEL 250,000, with the Agency providing GEL 125,000 in co-financing. The funding was used to produce annual crops and establish and develop the greenhouse farm. In 2021, the beneficiary also received preferential agrocredit to establish the greenhouse facilities.

The Georgian Vegetables from Greenhouses programme, implemented by the Rural Development Agency since 2024, has 355 beneficiaries. Commercial banks have issued approximately GEL 45 million in loans to establish greenhouse farms covering a total area of 55 hectares.

During the visit, the Minister was accompanied by Deputy Minister Lasha Avaliani, Director of the Rural Development Agency Zurab Gozalishvili, Mayor of Mtskheta Municipality Gogi Abuashvili and Chair of the Mtskheta Municipal Council Giorgi Eloshvili.
