Minister Songulashvili: Georgia Supports High-Quality, Safe Agricultural Production Through State Programs

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture David Songulashvili, along with Kakheti Governor Giorgi Aladashvili, Parliamentary Committee Chair Irakli Kadagishvili, and Rural Development Agency Director Giorgi Darchia, visited the village of Kurdgelauri in Telavi Municipality to inspect operations at the “Cold Cheese” enterprise—a beneficiary of the government’s Preferential Agrocredit Program.

The enterprise, which received an agroloan of ₾500,000, processes 1 ton of milk daily and produces various types of cheese for both local sale and export to the United States. The facility currently employs 10 people.

During the visit, Minister Songulashvili also met with small-scale cheese producers and discussed the sector’s challenges, underscoring the importance of state support for expanding Georgian agricultural output.

“Our goal is to promote the production of high-quality, safe Georgian products,” Songulashvili stated. “Such initiatives are key to ensuring our products gain ground both locally and internationally, which ultimately strengthens the economy and improves public well-being.”

The Rural Development Agency has been implementing the Preferential Agrocredit Program for over a decade. The program aims to provide farmers and agribusinesses with affordable, long-term financing to enhance the production, processing, storage, and distribution of agricultural goods.
