Minister Davit Songulashvili Meets with UNDP Delegation to Deepen Cooperation in Agriculture and Environmental Protection

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Davit Songulashvili met with a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), led by Ivana Živković, UN Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP Assistant Administrator, and Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS.

The meeting focused on current joint projects and future cooperation prospects. Minister Songulashvili expressed his gratitude for the UN’s long-standing and productive partnership, emphasizing the significance of UN-supported agricultural and environmental initiatives.

"The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and its agencies have extensive experience collaborating with the UN in various areas. The UN’s support plays a vital role in Georgia’s path toward European integration. We look forward to your continued support in effectively fulfilling the obligations under the Association Agreement," said Songulashvili.

Key topics discussed included the implementation of Georgia’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), climate change mitigation, air quality improvement, circular economy development, waste management, and early warning systems.

Ivana Živković highlighted the successful cooperation between UNDP and the Ministry, particularly in agriculture and environmental protection, and affirmed the UN’s commitment to continued collaboration. She emphasized the importance of supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in the agricultural sector and noted the relevance of environmental considerations in developing the Middle Corridor.

“We value our 30-year partnership with Georgia. We discussed ongoing projects in the environmental and agricultural sectors and explored opportunities for expanding cooperation,” said Živković.

Also present at the meeting were Deputy Minister Lasha Dolidze, UNDP Resident Representative in Georgia Douglas Webb, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Nils Christensen, UNDP Environment and Energy Team Leader Nino Antadze, and senior officials from the Ministry.
